Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to commission/recommission plant
   • Access, interpret and apply commissioning and recommissioning plant documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify, address and report potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
   • Access, interpret, confirm and apply design process principles
   • Identify and confirm the purpose of the plant and equipment
   • Confirm the design meets the identified purpose
2. Participate in hazard and operability studies
   • Identify and confirm existing process/procedures apply to hazard and operability studies
   • Participate in a hazard and operability study
   • Undertake investigations following hazard study
   • Record and process written reports on findings
3. Participate in acceptance of plant/equipment
   • Undertake pre-commissioning activities
   • Complete pre-commissioning documentation
   • Identify, record and report problems or non-conformances
4. Conduct test runs/trials
   • Conduct trials/test runs
   • Record performance data and process written reports
5. Evaluate results and identify modifications
   • Identify and record modifications and recommended improvements
   • Complete written documentation and communicate to appropriate personnel

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient commissioning or recommissioning of plant including:

managing information

accessing, interpreting and applying technical and safety information

keeping records of plant and equipment

complying with environmental requirements

analysing tasks

providing information, instruction, training and supervision

proposing practical recommendations for identified key issues

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the commissioning or recommissioning of plant that meets all the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to coordinate work activities

identifying and clearly communicating key issues

demonstrates completion of the commissioning or recommissioning of plan that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

contributing to the design of plant and/or equipment

participating in hazard and operability studies

conducting test runs and trials

evaluating test results and identifying modifications

documenting and reporting on findings

communicating findings

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in commissioning/recommissioning plants through:

accessing, interpreting and applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

hazard and risk identification and management

statutory compliance

work health and safety

environmental issues

policy management

equipment maintenance

problem solving techniques

report writing techniques

diagnostic/fault finding techniques
